Astronomy and Environmental Education Field Study course

Our school is in Cheung Chau, one outlying island less affected by light pollution and offers better stargazing experience. We host astronomy and environmental field study courses for secondary school students, which are scheduled from Friday evening until Saturday morning. There are three themes for the courses: Astronomy and Biology, Astronomy and Geography, and Astronomy Studies, through which students will be encouraged to acquire environmental knowledge, learning how to protect the environment. Astronomy

Objective

To enhance students concerning the protection of sky environment through various astronomical learning experience

Knowledges

To recognize different kinds of astronomical events, sky objects, constellations, situation of stars observation in Hong Kong and astronomical observation equipment.

Values

To appreciate the beauty of sky. To enhance students concerning the protection of sky environment.

Skills

To facilitate students observing, finding and identifying sky objects by using telescopes, binoculars, star maps, sky simulation software and other equipment.

Highlight

Field Studies Centre is located on the hilltop of southern Cheung Chau. Less light pollution to sky as it is distance away from Hong Kong urban area and Cheung Chau town centre.
There is a large open area which favoured a lot of students doing astronomical observation at the same time.
We provide computerized equatorial mount, different kinds of telescopes, sun observation instruments and binoculars for astronomical observation during daytime and nighttime.
